Is HF Coors dinnerware lead-free and cadmium-free?

All of HF Coors ceramic pieces are lead-free. We do not put lead in any of our clay or glazes. Our ceramic pieces pass CA Prop 65 as well as FDA standards.

Most colors, including white, are cadmium-free.

The glaze colors orange and red cannot be made without cadmium. But the safety of our dinnerware is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, HF Coors only uses what is called “encapsulated cadmium”.  The cadmium is encapsulated in non-toxic Zircon crystals rendering it impossible to leach out of the crystals, even during firing at more than 2000 degrees Fahrenheit in our kiln!

Each year, HF Coors, and many of our commercial clients, have our ware tested for lead and cadmium by independent laboratories across the country.  Our CEO even tested red and orange glazed dinnerware that had been used daily by his family of four for 5 years.  All lab tests, whether of freshly made dinnerware or of pieces used for many years, have always shown “none detected” for lead and cadmium, and they meet or surpass CA Prop 65 and FDA standards.

How do I care for my HF Coors dinnerware?

HF Coors dinnerware is known for its durability and longevity of use as well as its beauty.

Following these few simple guidelines will help keep your ware at its best:

  • Rubbing an unglazed “foot” against a glazed surface can cause surface scratches
  • Stack with care
  • You may want to insert a paper towel between items when nesting
  • Do NOT use on a stove top burner
  • Avoid impact. Handle with care
  • Silverware marks all ceramic surfaces; the more you use your dishes, the more likely it is that you shall see grey “metal marks” on its surface. Do NOT use bleach to remove metal marks, as bleach will often leave a chalky look on your dinnerware. Scrubbing only with a scouring pad can wear down a glaze surface, thus making it more difficult to clean and easier to receive metal marks in the future

To remove metal marks, we recommend using the "Cookware and Cleanser Polish" version of Bar Keeper's Friend®.  This product is widely available at grocery stores, Home Depot, Walmart, online through Amazon, etc.  After adding a little bit of water to the Bar Keeper's Friend® to create a near-paste consistency, lightly rub the plate with a gentle scouring pad such as Scotch-Brite™.  This should effectively remove metal marks without compromising the look or surface quality of your dinnerware.

Do you share my personal information?

No. All personal information is only used by HF Coors. We never share, sell, or distribute any of your personal information.

 

Does HF Coors use secure credit card processing methods?

Yes. All online transactions at hfcoorsdinnerware.com are processed using industry-standard SSL encryption. When you enter your credit card number into the order form, it is transmitted across the Internet in an encrypted (scrambled) form, then decoded when it gets to us. Your online credit card transactions with HFCoors.com are as safe as if you were purchasing with a credit card in a store or restaurant. If, however, you prefer to place your order over the telephone, you may call us toll-free 800-782-6677, and we will be happy to handle your purchase personally. We do not keep credit card #’s.

 

Do you ship orders outside of the United States?

We would be happy to ship your order internationally!  Please contact our store via phone or email to place your order and so we can determine applicable shipping charges, which will be billed along with your items.  We work with DHL, UPS, FedEx, and US Postal Service for shipping consumer orders. 

For our Canadian friends, we are looking to implement internet orders with shipping north of the border starting in late Nov. or early December 2022.  Until then, please contact our store. 

Please note that due to the weight of our products, shipping charges outside the USA may be expensive.

 

What if I change my mind and would like to return the dinnerware?

You may return your dinnerware for any reason, within 30 days of receiving it. HF Coors will give you a full refund on the dinnerware (returned in original condition) minus original shipping costs to your location.

Please note: If you would like to see HF Coors dinnerware before placing your entire order, you may order a sample. Samples can save time and money during your decision process versus ordering all pieces sight unseen. Colors may vary on computer screens. True color, if a big concern, is best determined by ordering a sample.

Does HF Coors have a store I can visit? Can I tour the factory?

Yes, absolutely! We invite you to visit HF Coors Factory Store in Tucson, Arizona. We are open Monday thru Saturday 9 am to 5 pm.  Please check in advance if you plan to visit on a holiday.

Do you donate any proceeds from Mimbreno dinnerware sales to Native Americans or causes that support Native Americans?

Yes, we do!  The Mimbreno pattern was originally designed by Mary Jane Colter for the ATSF Railway for use in their dining cars to the West Coast from 1936 until 1971.  Using the ancient Mimbres Indian pottery as an inspiration, Ms. Colter designed many different pieces in that pattern.  Syracuse China, which went out of business in 2009, was the original producer for the railroad.  (It’s a really interesting story if you research Mary Colter, the ATSF Super Chief, Fred Harvey, and the Harvey Houses that were along the route.)  HF Coors didn’t start producing this pattern until 2015, and only under license from BNSF Railway (which bought the ATSF railway in 1996).  Other than the licensing, BNSF is not involved in the manufacture, sale, or distribution of these pieces. 

Today, the Mimbres Indians are no longer around (and haven’t been since around 1150), although it’s thought that they may have been absorbed by the Pueblos.  So that makes donating proceeds to the right place from our Mimbreno line rather challenging.  First, the actual artwork was designed by Ms. Colter and is not an exact copy of Mimbres art (though it resembles their work).  HF Coors was also not originally commissioned to design and produce these products.  Instead, as an American manufacturer of ceramics, we purchased the license and brought back a popular ceramics pattern for the general public.  Of course, if we were using original Native American artwork, we would pay royalties to the tribe or artist (or his/her family depending upon the agreement), just like we pay royalties on our Southwestern Mugs and our Olive Oil dishes.  But because the Mimbres culture no longer exists, deciding which, if any modern Native American Tribe should receive a donation or royalty is difficult as none can really lay claim to the artwork due to it not being actual Pueblo art, and what we make was designed by Mary Colter.

So instead, we make a large donation each year that benefits Native American cultures in what was the Mimbres Culture’s region.  Every Oct/Nov., there is an event called the Fred Harvey History Weekend, held at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, NM.  This 3-day event features lectures and several fundraisers (banquet, auction, etc.) to benefit the New Mexico Historical Museum, which does extensive work for the Native American cultures throughout New Mexico and the American Southwest.  At the banquet, we donate a unique piece to each guest, plus we donate more rare HF Coors pieces for the auction.  Over the past several years, HF Coors pieces have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Museum and their outstanding work.
